 Wastewater treatment plants consume large amounts of energy, contributing as much as 1-3% to the total global energy output of which more than 50% is used for aeration. Certainly, for every wastewater treatment plant the goal is to ensure the compliance with discharge requirement. However, experience has shown that this is achieved with very different energy consumption. Although there may be differences between the treatment plants due the technological peculiarities it is still possible to compare the treatment plants. For such comparison studies we use German standards and existing comparative data.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In addition to the comparative studies and determining the energy consumption we can also help to detect the biggest possibilities for energy save within the process.
