 Industrial wastewater treatment process is generally significantly more complicated compared with municipal wastewater. As a result, different disturbances of the treatment process like changes in the sludge settling properties, intensive foaming, spread of filamentous bacteria and more can be frequent problems for WWTP operators.  All these problems can deteriorate treatment plant efficiency and lead to production of non-compliant effluent.
